Imagine growing in the city of Philadelphia, the unique girl of a motorcycle veteran policeman who was killed in combat when you were a girl. The beloved bicycles of your father remain wrapped as corpses in the garage until one day at the end of your teens, something forces you to remove the tarpaulin and sit on one of his motorcycles . We feel like at home, then you beg one of the coppers of your father to teach you to ride. You are a natural, it makes you feel strong and confident and in one way or another, you can imagine the presence of your father's guide when you ride. You start running, and soon you start winning these races. We call you hurricane, because you tear the track as a storm but that you totally in peace in the middle of the tumult.
If you like this kind of formula 1 level melodrama (which I have just invented), I have bad news. RIMS Racing has nothing of this. But if you like motorcycles, driving them, push them to their limits, be obsessed with each nut and bolt and piece of equipment, then Rims Racing is definitely your game.
Although the ranks of the sub-genre of motorcycle races are not as populous as those of the automotive races, there are titles established to which a new franchise reached as RIMS Racing will be compared, including the excellent but punitive MotoGP2021 or Ride 4 which makes an exceptional use of the Dualsense controller. RIMS Racing literally focuses on the nuts and bolts of the motorcycle racing experience, allowing players to learn essentially to disassemble and reconfigure each part of their bikes, while offering exceptionally difficult race experience and a career mode Somewhat stripped - at least in terms of character-oriented tragedy for beginners than some cousins of automotive simulation provide.
As for the motor racing, your bike components are extremely important and even adjustments or minute upgrades have a significant impact on maneuverability, speed and other aspects of driving and running experience. Brake pads for mirrors, tires (dozens of choice) with gas controls, RIMS Racing encourages you to enter and turn, making each small mechanical adjustment a combination of controller entries. You must unscrew the screws with the controllers, replace the part (a different input) and then replace the screws. If you really like motorcycles and understand how each room works and has an impact on the bike, you will love this simulation aspect. If you just want to enter and run, you want all this to happen behind the scenes.
Is there a tutorial? Of course, although it is mainly a series of buttons prompts and info-bubbles. It's quite superficial, overall, and you can not stop you from having the feeling that developers are eager to start race and tearing and assume that you are too. It really seems that there is a need for a motorcycle runner that is really friendly for newcomers.
RIMS Racing - At least launch - does not overwhelm with its selection of less than a dozen bicycles, all of known and respected manufacturers, focusing on the manufacture of each bike a perfect simulation at a time in the store and on Track. The bike you buy in the showroom belongs to you to upgrade it, modify it and adapt it to the content of your heart (and your wallet), so that you never feel like limited by not having dozens of bicycles in your garage.
Although it avoids the melodrama of the Formula 1 campaign, RIMS Racing has a robust career mode and a wide variety of secondary mission challenges that include things like exceeding a defined number of runners, reaching a specific speed or place in a certain position. Outside the track, you visit your garage, where you can repair or improve your bike and driver equipment with more than 500 different components, and plan your next race. It's a bit more abstract than emotional, but evolve in career mode is always convincing.
It is also incredibly difficult, even using a generous number of decisive passes. Like the motor racing, the sport of the motorcycle race is precise, visceral and demanding. Motorcycles add the complication of multiple brakes to master, the use of body position in turns and the impact of small mechanical problems with a major effect on performance. RIMS Racing does a spectacular job by recreating the feeling of breathtaking speed and the tip of technology. Orders are not easy to master, but the controls are perfectly aligned with the experience.
Like its bike selection, track selection is also a bit limited (10 well-known tracks and some road courses in the USA) but those included are excellent, varied and incredibly well rendered. The weather and lighting are exceptional and their impact on the driving experience is immediately perceptible. Although I thought that the techno music of the game did not add much to the races already rich in adrenaline, RIMS Racing has an incredible audio design with respect to the deep, hoarse and outright intimidating motorcycle engines at full speed .
Some race simulators divide the difference between the accessibility and realism of the Arcade type, but Rims Racing leans strong enough towards the latter. Although it is not totally hostile to the novices, it is a game for motorcycle enthusiasts. By focusing on what's going on in the shop between races at least as much as on the races themselves, Rims Racing offers a career mode to provide, but excels in the supply of a two-wheeled race simulator demanding and sometimes exciting. .
