Developer Half Asleep announced that the rhythm game Melatonin will be on September 16, 2022. Compatible platforms are PC (Steam/Epic Games Store) and Nintendo Switch. Currently, the demonstration version can be played on Steam.
Melatonin is a rhythm game set in a world where dreams and reality are combined. A young pink parka young man is riding a rhythm in a dream world that can be said to be a reflection of his reality. In this work, the animation is a clue to the timing. While immersing in the animation, you can enjoy the experience of riding the beat comfortably.
In game play on a PC, it is a way to press the space key or arrow key according to the rhythm. The game consists of several stages, and the stage consists of five levels. Each level can be played in about 1 minute. Each contains unique animation and rhythm games, like a mini-game collection. And each of them depicts a dream world where youth's reality is mixed. For example, at the SNS-themed level, a huge smartphone is turned like a stairs, and a young man jumps over it according to the rhythm.
Easy mode and hard mode are prepared as difficulty level, and in Easy mode, visual support is provided, such as displaying the key when pressing the key. There is no such display in the hard mode, and only the rhythm and animation will be pressed as clues. In the hard mode, the gameplay itself has changed, and there are also thrilling developments such as sudden changes in the tempo.
Each stage has the final level. It is a challenging level that combines the elements experienced at the previous level. After the level, the grades are evaluated. The next stage will be opened depending on the ring and star you can get according to your grades. In addition, it seems that the challenge mode and level editors will be opened by progressing.
This work has the influence of the Rhythm Heaven series, including game systems, compositions, and visuals. While keeping the fun of rhythm easily, the pastel-colored world view and the LO-Fi-based sound will be the unique element of this work.
The development is Developer Half Asleep based in Vancouver, Canada. It's like a personal studio by David Huynh. Melatonin is the first work for the studio. In the development of Melatonin, play tests have been conducted several times in the past, and the game has been brushed up. According to the official website, Melatonin seems to be developing a game entitled Block Party separately. Although the details are still unknown, this work seems to be distributed to PC (Steam/Epic Games Store).
